Jobs

Although Irish-Americans can now be found in nearly all professions (except for dentistry), they still have a strong presence in the following occupations:

Cops

Bartenders

Priests

Firemen

Belligerent Drunks

Geographical Patterns

Irish-Americans are found mostly in urban areas, where the need for cops, bartenders, priests, firemen, and drunks is much greater than in the countryside. In Boston after a Red Sox game, you can’t help but stumble over one. If the Sox won, you have a chance of making it to your car in one piece. If the Sox lost, you should probably hang out near the security area until eight to ten hours after the final out.

Nesting Patterns

Irish-Americans tend to live in apartments and suburban single-family dwellings. Among Irish Catholics, a cross and a painting of Jesus are nearly always somewhere in the house.

In older specimens, there will most likely also be a photo of JFK on the wall. If they are hard-core old-school Irish, JFK will be slightly above Jesus but below the poster advertising Guinness stout.

Famous Irish-Americans

Buster Keaton

James Cagney

John Wayne

Jack Nicholson

Lucky Charms leprechaun

Grace Kelly

Kermit the Frog (on his mother’s side)
